Paris in the Snow . . .

Thursday, March 3, 2011

I am back in Singapore, but I can honestly say I am still glowing from our 2 months spent living in France - its just so picturesque! In December, we got stuck in a terrible snowstorm when leaving Paris. The 1 hour drive back to our town of Fontainebleau took 6 hours - but I snapped some photos along the way. It was almost worth the traffic . . . the large box of Laduree macaroons we had the car did not hurt either. Ah, Paris!

Artist Spotlight: Massimo Vitali

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

I first discovered photographer Massimo Vitali at the home of a client. She had a beautiful collection of modern art and especially photography. We loved the color and mood of her large beach image by Vitali, that we used it as an inspiration point - pulling all of the paint and fabric colors from it! The walls ended up a lovely warm aqua-green blue. And I have loved Vitali's works ever since! One King's Lane is currently having a sale of his works at very discounted prices through HK Photographs. They are still a splurge of course of so beautiful! Vitali was a photojournalist and a film camera man prior to beginning his fine art series, he usually perches 20 to 30 feet in the air to snap his panoramic shots. I love the large scale of his photographs and the beaches, ski resorts, and tourists at play which he captures! The piece above is Courmayeur Mont Blanc.

HOME is Where the Heart Is . . .

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

On our honeymoon my husband and I visited Argentina - and the trip will forever rank as one of my very favorites. The combination of Latin creativity and energy with European sophistication makes Buenos Aires one of my all time favorite design cities! We stayed at Hotel HOME a very small (and very reasonable!) hotel in the chic Palermo Soho neighborhood with only 11 guest rooms, and I adored their interiors! Retro wall papers, vintage mid century mod furniture, and minimalist architecture add up to a lively but comfortable space. I especially liked the untreated cement floors and how each room had its own color palette. The backyard style lounge, bar, and pool area are amazing and allow all the guests to mingle. Enjoy!

Hotel HOME has won the Wallpaper magazine Design Award in 2007, was on the Conde Nast Traveller Hot List of 2006, and was given the Conde Nast Travller Readers Choice Award in 2010 so it might not sound like such a hidden gem but believe me, they have not let it go to their heads! You really do feel at home!
