Designer Tip: Hanging Pendants

Thursday, July 30, 2015

One of the best ways to create ambiance is a space is with a fresh take on lighting. Pendents are of course lovely hung in a tall entryway or over a kitchen island but what about hanging them someplace unexpected? I love to use pendants over desks, bedside tables, or in the corner of a sitting room. Hanging pendants are so space efficient, freeing up floor and table top space and add so much warmth and coziness. If you rent or don't want to hard wire for pendants, a plugged in fixture with a swaged cord can look great too!

Here is a bit of my favorite inspiration. . .

Trend Spotting: Bare Bulbs

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Lately I am just loving the industrial, minimalist look of bare bulb lighting. These hanging pendants are so understated but when done right, can add so much style to a space. I think multiples is the key - one bulb alone can look a bit severe but when in a grouping they are a wonderfully modern take on a chandelier. I especially love this kitchen below, mounting a black metal ceiling rod is a brilliant way to hang these pendants. Also, so sorry but no eco friendly bulbs here - vintage inspired or oversized filament bulbs are the prettiest when they are the star of the show!

Would you love this look in your home?

If you are in the market, I adore the vintage feel of these from New England Design Co. and the bright neon hues of these from Earth Sea Warrior . . . .

I Heart: David Trubridge Ligthing

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

I recently used a lovely David Trubridge Coral Pendant for a client here in Singapore and now I can not stop dreaming of owning one for myself! I love how the fixtures have a dramatic presence while also being so light, airy and organic in form. The Coral is equally at home in a mod, stylish dining room as in a chic nursery - a true test of versatility! There is just something so playful and appealing about these pendents and I adore the lattice patterned light they cast and that you can even order them with a hidden burst of color inside!
Do you love them as much as I do?

Plus, the fixtures even come in eco friendly {and surprisingly tiny} packing boxes. So cool!

David Trubridge is a New Zealand based company but they are available here or here for my US readers, and for those of you here in Singapore, I have a secret source with surprisingly reasonable prices if you are in the market! Just email me :)

Iconic Pieces: Lindsay Adelman Lighting

Monday, February 4, 2013

While fairly new to the interiors world, the incredible lighting of artist Lindsay Adelman is already so iconic! Her Branching Bubble chandeliers have popped up in loads of design mags and blogs, and I love how industrial, glamourous, delicate and bold they are all at the same time. They make such a vibrant statement but are still sparse and a bit minimal - an amazing juxtaposition. And they look stunning in interiors ranging from traditional to super mod. I know they cost a fortune but I think these beauties are really worth it and will stand the test of time . . . do you agree?

It is so innovative how the chandelier can be configured to fit any space {it's modular pieces remind me of a chemistry diagram} Plus, a peak into their NYC studio - what a cool and inspiring space!

Find of the Week: Luke Lamp Co.

Friday, March 9, 2012

I looove the industrial, minimalist lighting by the Luke Lamp Co. These simple and rustic lamps and light fixtures are raw but so pretty. Luke bills his work as 'cool gifts for manly men' but I think us girls can get behind these wonderful, handmade lights too!

I think that first table lamp is my favorite, how about you?
You can see more styles and buy here via Etsy.

{And thanks to my industrial, manly, minimalist brother for discovering this find!}
