I am so inspired by this summery chic entryway! Why it works:
{1) I love the look of painting horizontal stripes below the chair rail - such an effective and lovely DIY idea!
{2} The pale, soft blue is grounded by the black accents - what an unusual color combo!
{3) Lots of natural wood and wicker, along with the sisal matting, draw the whole look together and give a neutral base.

It's a very clever use of colour - quite pale and soft, and yet, as you say, the black gives it just enough edge to work beautifully.
Loving the photo of the black coral...almost heavenly and devilish at the same time!!
