Trend Spotting: Modern Organic

Thursday, February 20, 2020

This year I am loving modern organic spaces. I grew up in a very modern house, and while I love the clean lines of contemporary interiors, I think they are best when tempered by lots of warm layers and natural textures. Here is a bit of inspiration I have recently been filing away . . . .

Modern Organic: A Designer's Urban Home

Friday, March 18, 2016

Today I am loving this modern but warm bachelor pad. It is the home of Seattle based designer Brian Paquette and I am so inspired by his gorgeous blending of  vintage pieces, organic textures and subtle patterns. The space feels so rich and layered despite being a new build condo and I especially love the restraint of the color palette - focusing only on grays, black, white and woods with a bit of stormy blue. Paquette's space look casual yet sophisticated - note the art hung off center above the sofas, such an expected touch. Any details you love?

Singapore Style: Sentosa's Fish House

Thursday, January 9, 2014

Sometimes the heat in Singapore is just oppressive but as today was breezy and lovely I thought it was the perfect day to share the incredible Fish House built by Guz Architects. Situated on Sentosa Island, the architecture and finishes of the home work to bring nature in and act as a link to amazing sea just a few meters away. My favorite features include the unique indoor-outdoor pool, lush rooftop garden and the soft undulating form of the interior ceilings {meant to mirror the waves just beyond!}. I also love the the use of abundant landscaping and lots of natural wood surfaces to create a space that is chic and modern but still so welcoming. Any details you love? Happy daydreaming!

For those of you in the US experiencing the intense cold snap - I'd say this house is the perfect inspiration to come visit us here in sunny Sing!

XOXO

Office Tour: Fashion Designer Jason Wu

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Fashion designer Jason Wu is well known for his ethereal fabrics, gorgeous details, and modern but feminine pieces. I was especially in love with the white dress Michelle Obama wore for the inauguration! I was so curious and excited when I discovered that Carrier & Co., whose interiors I adore, decorated his offices. . . and the resulting spaces are just divine! They have so much chic style and personality but still really let the clothing shine. Plus, the decor is fresh and modern without being cold. While it is an office, there are tons of great decorative details to take home too!

I love the way Carrier & Co. contrasts the cool cement floors and modern metal clothes racks with antique inspired pieces like the black tables and red Thonet chairs! I also am crazy for oversized bunches of bare branches - what a lovely organic touch. What is your favorite element?
