E-Decorating: A Sweet, Tropical Bedroom

Friday, August 31, 2012

I recently completed this fun e-decorating project but realized I never shared it! The space was an airy guest bedroom that also often hosted the family's youngest daughter (her room was too far away from mom and dad!). The challenge was to create a space that was sophisticated and welcoming to adult guests but also pretty and fun for a girl's room. In the real world, rooms often serve lots of different needs so I loved getting to help the client pull it all together in one interior. I especially liked the pale aqua wall color with the burst of raspberry accessories. Any details you like?

The space was not too large, so I did not want to overwhelm it with furniture but if we had space, I would have also loved to add . . .
this petite whitewashed lamp

these pretty little slipper chairs {only $99!}

And this beautiful but casual starburst mirror

Please email me or visit my site for any design dilemas you need help with! I would love to help!

Sharon Montrose: The Animal Print Shop

Thursday, August 23, 2012

I discovered this collection of fantastic animal prints via very chic friend who included them on her baby gift registry. I adore all of the adorable 'little darlings' series but also loved the other animals featured too! They will look so charming in a nursery but I also love the look of them in more sophisticated spaces as well. The photographs are graphic and modern but still so playful and a bit quirky.

I sent this giraffe to my friend as part of her gift - can't wait to see him hanging in her little boy's room!

House Tour: Scandi Condo

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Usually it's older, vintage style homes which feature Scandinavian style interiors - which is why this modern Scandi condo really caught my eye! Instead of antique details, this new apartment blends modern architecture with warm and whimsical Scandinavian touches. A neutral color palette with pops of primary color and bold pattern helps draw the whole space together. Additionally, the sleek wall and floor materials are contrasted with a few well placed antiques to add a little bit of patina. I also love that the floors were still left bare for the most part, adding to the airy and open feeling.

Do you think Scandi interiors work in this modern architecturally setting?

This lovely space was created by Toronto based interior designer Jill Greaves.

Daily Detail: An Industrial Luxe Kitchen

Sunday, August 19, 2012

I love the modern yet warm feeling of this kitchen! I like contemporary spaces but so often find them cold or bare looking  - so what is it about this beautiful space that works so well? I think its the mix of organic and man made textures and materials which help make this space welcoming and modern at the same time. I especially love the iron and brass light fixtures as well as those woven leather bar stools.

Do you think this space works?

Design Dilema: To Match or Not to Match?

Thursday, August 16, 2012

My first job in design was at a very classical, traditional firm. They did beautiful work and as many interiors were historic, every detail in a space was carefully selected to match. But as I continued on in design and worked for very different firms, I came to seek out and love everything that did not match. Now, I am hopelessly drawn to shades of a color that are just off, items that are a bit oversized, or accessories that are quirky. I am crazy for all things vintage but love those items most when paired with more modern pieces. I can completely see the beauty in a coordinated interior, but deep down I really love spaces that are unexpected, layered and collected.

What is your design stance? Do you tend to match or not?

House Tour: A Primary Family Pad

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

A sleek, modern home can be visually stunning but add a family and real life into the mix and it can certainly be very hard to maintain and to live in! That is why I am always on the lookout for modern but casual and inviting spaces like this chic home in London. It has clean lines and a contemporary aesthetic but still manages to be full of life and accommodating for a young family. I really adore the bold blocks of primary colors. Not only are the hues happy and vibrant, but by using solid units of color against a backdrop of white, the spaces feels larger and extra spacious. I also loved the well thought out furniture layout - each room has plenty of storage and comfy seating without feeling packed or cluttered!

This kelly green vanity is just fantastic! Any details which catch your eye?
