Etsy: 3 Art Finds!

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

I love scouring Etsy for all types of decorative accessories and pieces but some of my most favorite Etsy finds are art works. As a designer I am on an endless hunt for beautiful, original and affordable art and I love the range of artists Etsy has - all in one place. From letter press prints to photographs, paintings, watercolors and drawings - it's basically my first stop when assembling a gallery wall for a client. Especially if they already have some pieces they love, it's a great way to add to their collection and fill in the visual gaps. So on that note, here are my 3 favorite Etsy Art Finds of the moment!

1
11x17 Luster finish photograph of Oregon coast line
$40

2
11x 17 Limited edition print version of a Bombay black ink drawing
$32

3
16x16 art giclee print of an original mixed media oil painting
$65

Easy Pizzi DIY: Paint Dipped Legs

Monday, April 22, 2013

A few weeks ago a dear friend asked for a few fresh ideas for their nursery design and I stumbled upon this playful {and oh so easy!} DIY idea. They selected a simple, white modern crib so I thought it would be really lovely to add a bright painted base to the legs for a custom look and a bit of unexpected color. How fun! Now I am wondering if the trick might also work wonders for my very bland Ikea dining table. . . .

Warehouse Style: Palette DIYs

Monday, April 15, 2013

As some of you know, I spend part of my time each week working for the e-commerce company my husband and his partner started. I love being part of the team and it's certainly a departure from my design work. Plus, working just above the warehouse brings a whole new surprising source of design inspiration. As I often walk by these stacked up shipping palettes, I naturally started wondering how I could use them in an interior. They have a great industrial vibe and it turns out there are so many lovely and eco friendly ways to give new life to these old wooden crates {but admittedly they would need a good scrubbing down first!}

I love them white washed with paint or just in their natural wood texture, here are a few of my favorite inspirations . . .

I especially love this striped bin designed to hold fire wood - so creative and pretty!

What do you think? Cool and repurposed or just old and a bit dirty?

Moving Day!

Thursday, April 11, 2013

I just returned from our wonderful week in Europe but I am already furiously packing up since we are moving tomorrow! We are so excited about the new place - especially the larger kitchen and spare room which I can use for my very own design office. I also love the quiet view of the lush Singapore greenery.

More to come on our new place and my decorating progress!

Wish me luck!

E-Decorating: Layered & Modern in Dubai

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Hi Everyone! So sorry I have been a bit absent on the blog recently! I am very lucky say it's partially due to lots of design projects going on right now! One of of the most fun is an e-decorating project in Dubai. I was given a wonderful, huge space to work with and had the best time putting it all together. The goal was create a warm, layered and cozy space that that was still modern and subtle. New construction is great but can certainly lend a cold feel so it was really important to bring in lots of different textures and materials for visual interest and depth. We chose palate of ivory, grays, wood tones with accents of rich blue and bolts of yellow. We are still in progress but I am so excited about how it is all coming together so far!
What do you think?

House Tour: Modern Farmhouse in Parma

Monday, April 8, 2013

In honor of our amazing time in Italy, I had to share this lovely modern farmhouse in Parma. Italy often has this incredible balance between the old and the new which is so beautiful to me, and this home captures it perfectly. I love the contrast of the iron factory windows and aged stone work on the facade and I also adore the oh so pale blue gray of the doors and trim inside - such a wonderful combo! Any details you love?

Iconic Patterns: Hinson's Splatter Paper

Friday, April 5, 2013

I love a burst of pattern but of course can worry that certain ones might get tiring or start to look dated. That is why I especially adore iconic prints which stand the test of time - and this playful splatter painted wall paper by Hinson is such a classic! It was used by decorating great Billy Baldwin in a Nantucket home the 1960's and it looks just as fresh and appealing today. So versatile - it looks equally great in a bath, an entry, and a bedroom. I love the organic, handmade feel and the lovely range of blues. Also it would be such a fun paper to have in a oversized frame!

So modern and chic with the glossy red shades and brass accents

Nautical and earthy when paired with rich neutrals and layered with subtle stripes and plaids

Lovely and sophisticated! The indigo tones look great with a shot of hot pink as well!

Rustic Elegance

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

We are sooo enjoying our time here in Italy! To me one the most beautiful things about life in Italy, and especially in Tuscany, it the effortless balance between natural simplicity and cultured elegance. Singapore is so beautiful in its own way, but often focuses on the shiny and new so I am really loving this rustic breath of fresh air! Simple beauty is really sometimes the best.
Do you agree?

Spring Color Combo: Black, White + Neon

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Fun neon accents are popping up every where in Spring fashion - so what about for home too! When balanced with plenty of black, white and wood tones, I love the energetic feel of this vibrant combo. A good reference is to limit the feisty colors to 15% or less of the interior and to stick to accessories or small doses. I also think this palette looks especially great in raw, industrial or modern spaces.

Are you inspired to bring a pop of neon home too?

That kitchen with the neon pink metal stools and brass pendant is my favorite. Such a bold impact with so little color!
