He's Arrived!

Sunday, August 31, 2014

Sorry for blogging silence of late but I am thrilled to say it's due to the arrival of our little boy! He arrived in a hurry on 8.8.14 here in Singapore and we are already so in love! Here is a quick peak at his nursery {which is certainly a work in progress!} but which I had so much fun putting together.

Hope all of you are having a week as beautiful and busy as we are!

Baby W at one week - life is exhausting as a baby!

House Tour: Nantucket Updated!

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

In honor of the long Memorial Day weekend in the States and the official kick off to summer, I had to share this amazing updated beach house by Jeffery Alan MarksThere are a lot of beautiful beach homes but it's not often I spot one as fresh and unexpected as this Nantucket beauty. I love the worn vintage pieces layered against the cool, white crispness of the interior architecture. The decor nods to traditional New England seaside home but feels so modern as well - no fussy sea shell collections here! I especially like the use of warm reds, turquoise, and lots of black, white and gray to balance the classic beach blues. Honestly, I could move right in! Any details you love?

Happy Memorial Day or just happy beginning to summer!

Trend Spotting: Concrete Countertops

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

I am working on a few kitchen re-designs at the moment and while I adore the classic beauty of marble or honed granite countertops, I am recently loving all of the fantastic concrete counters I see popping up! I really like the industrial, rustic vibe they lend and concrete can be a cost effective, easy to customize, and unexpected alternative. The surface is porous but when properly sealed it can wear really well! It's not for someone who wants a perfectly uniform surface but it does offer lovely texture and variation. I especially like the juxtaposition of concrete with more organic finishes like natural wood or hand made tiles. Here are a few of my favorite examples of concrete at work. . .

Have you had any experience with concrete counters?

If you are handy, check out Little Green Notebook's very detailed DIY here! And by the way her entire laundry room re-do is completely amazing!!!

Springtime Travels & Beautiful Branches!

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Hi Everyone, I'm back!

So sorry for my silence, I was lucky enough to be traveling around the US seeing family and best friends and was just too much of a busy bee to check in! I missed my husband and design work here in Singapore terribly but loved every moment in the states, especially my last week soaking up the lovely spring time weather in NYC. I was just in time to catch the cherry blossoms and loved seeing large arrangements of flowering branches in loads of restaurants and shops - such a classic and naturally beautiful look! Plus, flowering branches will last weeks longer than cut blooms. Here are a few of my favorite inspirations. . . .

Happy Spring!

Have you guys seen these amazing SINCOLxmt Tapes? Made in Japan, the oversized washi tapes are made of rice paper, adhere so easily to walls and furniture, and can be removed with no damage at all - just like temporary wallpaper! Perfect for rental spaces or those of us that like to change our minds often. If you are not traveling to Japan soon they are also sold online here and here! So much fun right? I love them for kids rooms but really the possibilities are endless. . .

This vibrant basket weave might be my favorite inspiration. Could be just perfect for the next RedMart offices . . . .

Artist Spotlight: James Nares

Monday, March 24, 2014

"It just seemed to me that there was enough going on within a single brushstroke to tell a story"
- James Nares

The works of painter James Nares are an absolute favorite among both collectors and designers, and it's not hard to see why! I love spotting his work pop up in spaces done by so many of the top decorators and it's amazing to see the incredible range of styles these lively works can compliment. I especially am drawn to the dynamic format of Nares' canvases - they are so bold and modern but also so rich and warm with organic texture. And the vibrant single hues he picks for each work are fantastic!

Do you love Nares' work as much as me?

This shot is so fabulous, even only partially visible, the cobalt blue print gives energy to the whole space!

Love them as a mis-matched pair!

Nares at work - what a creative process! Perhaps inspired by Jackson Pollack?
