House Tour: Cozy + Colorful in Vermont

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Today I am so inspired by this bright and cozy, vintage inspired Vermont cabin! I love the quirky architectural details, traditional fabrics mixed with modern forms and happy color palette. It always been a dream of mine to have a wood burning stove and this black one is so charming. Do you have any favorite details?

Happy Monday!

Sometimes simple beauty is easier than you think to achieve! Don't hide your dishes away - when you add a few lovely details like a small painting or vase of flowers, regular dishes can look just so pretty!

Quick and Easy: Instant Art

Saturday, January 28, 2012

This lovely bedroom shows that painting a canvas a beautiful solid color can be simple genius! I love the burst of yellow and here it looks so great, you can even skip the headboard. I am going to have to try this at home. Instant art with no artistic skills needed - the perfect DIY!

A Colorful Entry. . .

Friday, January 27, 2012

"Some houses seem to say, 'Come on in' even before the bell is answered. And there are others, in that empty moment before the door is opened, that make you wish you'd never come at all."
- Dorothy Draper

How to fix this? Draper suggests painting your front door a vibrant color or dramatic dark to add personality . . . which 50 years later is still a pretty wonderful tip! Here are some of my favorite inspirations {an inky navy blue is my color of choice!}

P.S. It might be no surprise that Dorothy Draper designed the original Elizabeth Arden spa and came up with the idea for that iconic red door!

House Tour: A Mod House Boat

Thursday, January 26, 2012

One of the most beautiful things about Seattle is how close everything is to the water! I love going out on the boat with my family, and we love to cruise past all the house boats which are moored along the shores of Lake Union. Lots are charming and beachy looking but I really love the mod, clean look of this floating home. The combo of blond woods, tones of grays and a few bursts of red is fantastic and of course you can't beat the setting!

What do you think? Could you happily call this home?
{Also, loving that organic free form wood shelf in the shower - wonderful detail!}

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

I just walked our golden retriever in the rain, while wearing Lulu Lemon workout gear and drinking a Starbucks {and not carrying an umbrella of course!} I am feeling so Seattle today! Loving being home despite the rain. In honor my beautiful hometown, here is a bit of rainy day beauty!

Cozy Cabin Warmth

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Today I am loving this cozy cabin look! It would be a fabulous inspiration for a sun room or family room. The black painted beadboard walls combined with the pale carpeting and curtains gives tons of warmth but also keeps the space light. I also love the pops of art and the mod coffee table. Also the armchairs upholstered in contrasting fabrics is an great touch!

Hope you are having and beautiful and inspired Monday!

Trend Spotting: Suzani Bedcovers!

Saturday, January 21, 2012

I love the vibrant, ethnic look of suzanis, and while they certainly have been in fashion for quite a while, my favorite look is to see them used as a bed cover. The add great pattern and beautiful eclectic touch and can work in country, modern or vintage interiors. A quick way to add some fresh style to your master or guest room!

Want one for your bed? I love this one from Etsy or this one from Fabricadabra!
