House Tour: Emily Henderson's LA Style

Monday, February 23, 2015

Today I am so inspired by the sophisticated, warm and eclectic home of designer and blogger Emily Henderson. While working with the fantastic mid century modern California vibe of the property's architecture, Emily still managed to infuse the space with so much life and color. The mix of styles is perfect for a collected look and I also love how friendly the home is to little ones - not a white sofa or dangerous glass coffee table in sight! Mostly, I love how much of the owner's personality shines through in these interiors. Any details you love?

Even better, Emily has recently teamed up with Target so you can find lots of her stylish and totally affordable picks here! I especially love that Threshold mod brass desk lamp!

Love or Loathe: Vintage Sports Gear

Friday, February 20, 2015

One of my design clients here in Singapore has a fantastic collection of vintage golf clubs passed down in her husband's family. She had them stashed away but I argued they absolutely be incorporated into her modern interior! I loved the patina of the aged leather, woods and brass, and also the vintage feel they bring. Especially in a more contemporary space, antique pieces can add a ton of depth and texture. And vintage sporting pieces are just so playful! The key is using a single or a few pieces grouped together and contrasting them with plenty of clean lines and simple shapes. Here are few of my favorite examples. . .

Do you have any gems hiding in the garage or attic?

Red on Redd {And Happy Valentines!}

Friday, February 13, 2015

Red spaces always strike me as a bit fearless but so much fun! In honor of Valentine's I thought these bold, dramatic and vibrant were perfect inspiration. Red can be very challenging to work with but the aptly named the NY designer Miles Redd, does a beautiful job of balancing loads of rich reds with sophisticated and collected interiors. What do you think . . . lovely or overwhelming?

Love this creative idea for a V-Day weekend DIY!

Hope you have a fearless and wonderful Valentines Day with your loved ones!

Interior Design + Mommyhood: Good Night Moon

Monday, February 2, 2015

I love when two parts of your world collide and as a decorator and new mom, this Good Night Moon commentary just really made me laugh! I love reading this wonderful classic to Wyatt every night but always wonder about the interior design choices made -- so fun to see I was not alone! But it also got me thinking, can a red, yellow and green room be chic? The key is a more sophisticated palette, but yes I think so! Here are a few of my favorite more modern takes . . .

Good Night Everyone!

“So what color have we decided on for the upstairs child’s bedroom?”
Which child’s bedroom?”
“The enormous one.  The one with the expansive tomato-colored floor.”
“I was thinking for that room maybe a dark green?”
“Really?  Dark green?  You don’t think maybe dark green walls with a tomato-colored floor is a bit much?”
No, it’ll look amazing.  We can break up the monotony of the color with some dark green and yellow striped curtains.”
“That’s an amazing idea.  On non-matching red and yellow spearhead curtain rods?  Do you think a tiger skin rug would be overkill?”
For a young child’s room?  No.  Not at all.  ”
