Bedroom Styling: Long Lumbars

Thursday, June 23, 2016

I will admit, I have an obsession with lots of pillows! But sometimes a slightly cleaner look is in order, so lately I have been focusing on a single long lumbar pillow to add a luxe feel. Some clients prefer a bed that is easier to make so this look works beautifully! Lumbars can be simple, chic and effective. Plus the elongated form creates a lovely variety of shapes.

I usually ask my upholsterer make them up for me but you can also have a go at DIY here if you feel up to the challenge!

Singapore Style: Industrial-Vintage in Tiong Bahru

Wednesday, June 15, 2016

Life in Singapore means apartment living for many of us, and creating stylish and functional homes in small spaces is a big challenge! This incredible industrial home nails it - it is full of personal style and vintage pieces. The 1930's walk-up apartment is located in the trendy Tiong Bahru neighborhood, and was designed by Singapore architects WY-TO. I love the open layout of this interior, and the use of bold patterns and pops of primary color. The patterned rugs layered on the amazing vintage tile = a big win! Lots of older Tiong Bahru apartments have the original tile work and I loved that they saved it. I also love choice of a shop-style metal gate to act as a stairwell railing - such a great nod to the surrounding neighborhood.

If you are looking to come visit soon here is a fun guide to the neighborhood! Hope to see you there!

Designer Tip: Faking High Ceilings

Wednesday, June 8, 2016

Scale is one of the toughest elements to balance within in a space.  Some rooms are blessed with high ceilings and an airy, spacious feel - but if not, well placed window treatments can make all the difference! Even if the windows are low, I like to hang curtain panels very high, often hugging the ceiling  - this might sound unexpected, but the result adds instant height  and a luxe custom feel to the interior! The extra height of the curtains naturally draws your eye upwards and creates an elegant focal point. It also works beautifully with bamboo or roman shades.

I love tips like these as they cost so little but can have such an impact!

Design Daydreaming: A Kitchen With Personality

Thursday, June 2, 2016

Today I am dreaming of this classic yet colorful kitchen. Gorgeous, solid bones and tons of person accessories create a cozy but fresh interior.

Here are 4 take-way tips to re-create this look. . .

1) Wood toned open shelving displays personal items instead of hiding them away!
2) Vintage rugs add patina, color, and feel great underfoot
3) Blue-gray lower cabinets add an unexpected but subtle bit of color
4) Bare windows and industrial accents help keep the space feeling modern not cluttered

Hope this kitchen gives you happy daydreams too!
