In honor of the Olympics {and just because I adore it} today I decided to share this eclectic and inviting flat in North London. I always gravitate towards the blending of old and new and this home is a lovely example. The classic Victorian architecture is highlighted but lots of new energy and life comes from plenty of mid century modern vintage pieces, quirky decorative accents and colorful art. I also love the industrial, reclaimed look of the kitchen! 

This bath is fantastic! I love the inlaid floors, the warm aqua wall color and the fireplace - so charming.

I Heart: Black Crow Studios

I am still dreaming about the water colored walls from yesterday's melon hued bedroom so I decided I had to know more! I dug a little bit and found it was created by Black Crow Studios. I love the organic movement and rich but watery colors of these papers. And if you don't want to commit, they also sell beautiful giclee prints perfect for framing.

Summer Brights: A Melon Hued Bedroom

 I always love to see what designers create for showhouses - without a client, imagination and budget can run wild! I loved to work on these unusual projects when I was a designer at firms in NYC and found that some of the most inspired and playful interiors came out of these collaborations. This melon hued master bedroom at the Traditional Home Hamptons 2012 by Robert Passal is a perfect example! It is a whimsical and happy space but is still so sophisticated. I love the surprising layout, with the bed floating in the center of the room, the mix of summery colors and of course that fantastic watercolor wall paper {its like being completely surrounded by a painting!}. I also adore the inlaid chest topped with the yellow lamp. 

Are there any details you love? 

The low geometric upholstered screen is fantastic! I have never really seen one like it.

Drool Worthy Bedding

I just finished a bedroom design for an e-decorating client and I had so much fun sourcing the bedding. I love how you can transform an entire space just by switching out the bedding. It's a fantastic way to add a little creativity and oomph to your space without too much commitment. I like creating a layered look and mixing different textures and brands so nothing is too matchy, even if it is simple and elegant in style. 


My drool worthy source list for fabulous bedding includes John Robshaw, Lulu DK and Dwell Studio but I also like to mix in less expensive pieces, and have had some great luck at The Company Store, Target, and Garnet Hill and I love the options West Elm always comes up with too! For a little inspiration, here are some beautifully styled beds. . . I think its fantastic how each has its own distinct personality!

Designer Tip: Lovely Leaning Mirrors

I love to decorate with leaning mirrors. I have used them to brighten a lackluster corner, make a big statement in an entry, and reflect the natural light in an interior. But I also like how large floor mirrors also add architecture to a space - thanks to their scale, they feel almost like an extra door or oversized window. Plus they are wonderful pieces for rental homes as there is not even any hanging needed! Here are a few of my favorite examples . . . this bright yellow number above would be a fantastic DIY for a Craigs List or flea market find.

A Color Boost!

This week I have been picking paint colors for a few different projects and I keep thinking about how sometimes the most colorful rooms are actually a blank canvas! And this room from the great online mag House of Fifty, is a perfect example. A palette of white, ivory and charcoal is punctuated with loads of colorful and lively accessories. In a way, the lack of wall color lets the others shine. The best part is you can refresh and switch up the details whenever you want. . . 

{I especially love those vibrant prints over the fireplace!}

House Tour: Mad Men Beachside

Lately my husband and I have become obsessed with Mad Men, watching all of the seasons on our Apple TV. Now, I know we are a bit late but I don't care - I am just so inspired by the fantastic interiors and fashion of the show. I especially love when Don travels to California, the 1960s style there is incredible! This home was actually built recently in Brazil but its mod architecture and retro glamour are so Mad Men to me. . .
