I love to layer color and to incorporate many tones and shades of the same hue in one space. Somehow, lots and lots of the same color can almost feel like a neutral. It certainly is not logical, but sometimes great design just is not! Instead of using color as a pop, here are some examples of bold interiors that went all the way.

This was a really interesting post. I'm still pondering whether I like this look or not. You're right, though, going all the way monochromatic does have a neutralizing effect. Definitely something to keep in mind. I'm more of a pop of color kind of girl though.
Yes, it sure can, but not in the wrong hands though. The top image is wonderful - richly textured and layered, a room of simpering sultry mood. Marvelous.
