Daily Detail: Rustic Elegance

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Today for your daily detail, it's a lovely pairing of seaside rustic + glam modernism! I think these two styles are usually at odds but this living room is so unexpected and elegant.

Why I love it:

{1} The color palette of hazy, soft purples and blues is so sophisticated yet grounded
{2} The roughness of the console is balanced by the sleek brass side table and luxe velvet sofa
{3} The casual styling of the console table is beautiful but not too formal - it's a great trick to lean art instead of hanging
{3} The rope coffee table {enough said - it's fantastic!}

Daily Detail: A Nook with Personality

Friday, June 7, 2013

I feel a happy, warm kitchen is paramount to an inviting home and I just had to share this quirky and stylish eat-in nook! We spend tons of time at our kitchen tables so I love to see an interior like this with so much personality and charm. I would love to have my morning coffee here but it would be just as lovely for casual dinner parties.
Why it works. . . .

{1}A banquette crafted from a repurposed church pew offers lots of seating along with an antique aesthetic

{2} A wide mix of materials that are easy to maintain but create lots of visual interest: classic marble, varnished wood, distressed steel, shiny chrome...

{3} The oversized industrial black light pendant creates a cozy feel and provides soft lighting

{4} The hand rendered deer print and graphic G add a quirky and vintage feel

Daily Dose: Mod + Cozy in the Kitchen

Monday, May 13, 2013

I love the clean look of a modern kitchen but find they can feel so cold! This kitchen stikes just the perfect balance with so many charming and clever details. Here are a few of my very favorites:

{1} Warm chocolate countertops and fun wide striped backsplash
{2} The small framed painting and large photographic print - art in the kitchen is always a great idea!
{3} Pretty open shelving filled with lots of colorful cookbooks - useful and beautiful
{3} Split level counters - they break up the space and provide a comfortable height for cooking or eating
{4} The lovely retro light pendant - a hanging fixture creates ambiance

Daily Detail: A Beautiful Coffee Bar

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Those of you who know me well, know I adore coffee. I love how people get together over coffee, I love the warm taste and smell, and I really love how it reminds me of home in Seattle and being with my family. So naturally I was thrilled when an e-decorating client asked me to include a small coffee bar in his dining area. What a brilliant idea! I love the look of all the shiny coffee machines, colorful ceramics, and table linens out there, so it's easy to make this a pretty as well as very useful feature!  I especially like how here they incorporated pattered bowls and a small piece of art here. Machines can take up a lot of valuable counter space so this is also a wonderful space saving solution. Plus, there is something so welcoming and charming about a dedicated coffee corner.

A must for our next home! Are you inspired to create a coffee bar?

Daily Detail: A Pastel, Global Bedroom

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

For a daily dose of design, here is a charming and eclectic bedroom by L.A. based designer Peter Dunham that I just love! Dunham is brilliant at creating collected and worldly space that are also soft and welcoming. This room is so layered and textured without being overwhelming at all!

Here's why it works:
{1} A palette of dusty pastel hues is balanced with just enough chocolate brown accents
{2} The combo of many different subtle patterns together in one space keeps it interesting
{3} A large persian rug ground the space and adds to the global inspired feel
{4} Creamy white bedding, walls, and drapery allow all the other patterns to shine

What do you think? Inspired or pattern overload?

Daily Detail: Wild For Accessories

Thursday, November 15, 2012

I have to admit, I have always been a little bit accessory crazy - objects, art and textiles are such an amazing way to express your personal style and an affordable way to reinvent a bland space. And this lovely living room is a perfect example! The white walls, simple slipcovered sofa, bare windows and plain wood floors are basic on their own but are a beautiful backdrop for all the mixed pillows and interesting table top pieces. I love the layered, slightly exotic and eclectic vibe the space has thanks to loads of pretty accessories.

Have you ever reinvented a space using accessories?

Daily Detail: Cozy, Industrial Living

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Don't you just love this warm and casual living room? It would seem that industrial pieces and bare floors would be the opposite of cozy, but this space illustrates just how to fuse the two! I love the layers of different textures, the simple monochromatic color scheme, and the clean, mod lines of the furniture pieces. The collected gallery wall is also so pretty and quirky!

Hello, Happy Monday! As I work from home the majority of the time, I am always on the look out for creative, beautiful offices and this vignette really caught my eye! I love the combo of the sleek mid century desk and the fabulous ikat-floral wall paper! {or is it fabric?} The eclectic accessories, art, and vintage typewriter add even more texture and charm. I could love to work here everyday!

Daily Detail: Happy + Busy Chaos

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

In my own life, I almost always find I am happiest when I am busiest! So why not for interiors too? Pattern filled, lively spaces are so fun, but can also at times feel a bit chaotic.

What is the secret to why this charming bar niche works?

{1} White sheer flowy curtains and white painted floors help calm and ground the space
{2} The scale - it's just a small corner vignette which prevents it from being overwhelming
{3} the bold graphic heart print (LOVE it) is a crisp contrast to the wild wall covering

Daily Detail: Black, White and Mod Office

Thursday, February 23, 2012

I love this bright and airy office. It's so simple and I think that is certainly an IKEA rug, but the overall look is just lovely! I love the graphic art prints, the mis-matched chairs and the bare windows. I also like that the stylist did not even bother to hide all those computer cords.

See. . . sometimes a pretty interior is not so hard after all!
Could you work in this space?

Daily Detail: Dusty Blue + Green

Thursday, February 2, 2012

I so often opt for all white in a kitchen - it's crisp simplicity just always seems so clean and timeless. But here is a great inspiration for brining classic color into your kitchen interior! The key is to keep the colors subdued and soft, I love the dusty navy blue and mossy green they picked here. And to temper the color with lots of white and neutrals.

Do you love it? Or still favor a more simple look?

Daily Detail: Hippy Chic

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Sometimes interiors from the 60s and 70s are pretty over the top, but I think this airy living room is just right. Chic brass light pendants, a great organic root table, an eclectic mix of textiles, and not a shag carpet in sight!
What about you . . . love it or hate it?

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Daily Detail: January 5th

Thursday, January 5, 2012

I love this sweet seating vignette! It is sophisticated enough to be in a living room, but soft enough for a little girl's bedroom or nursery.

{1} The sofa's clean form is great combo with the pretty pale peachy fabric
{2} An antiqued mirror is balanced out by the black and white baby shots
{3} That great bird pillow is so lively and also ties whole color palette together
{4} A textured coffee table piled with books adds visual interest

Just a daily does of eye candy! Happy Thursday!

Sigh. . . I am so taken with this indigo and white rustic vignette! I can't decide if it's more Americana country or Scandinavian chic but either way I am in love. I want all of those blankets! What do you find inspiring?
