Textiles Make the Room

Friday, January 20, 2017

I am a firm believer than textiles and accessories can really make the room. In this fab California home by Amber Interiors, the stunning use of vintage and ethnic textiles adds such color, depth, pattern and texture. By keeping the rest of the spaces breezy and simple, with clean lines, white walls and lots of mid century pieces, the textiles really pop! I just love this eclectic look, what do you think?

{This might be the most charming and stylish nursery ever!}

And for those in the market for a few - my go to secret source for great vintage inspired textiles is Urban Outfitters Home and Anthropolgie Home! Who knew?

Singapore Decorating: One Living Room Two Ways!

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

I am working with a wonderful new client here in Singapore and she and her family are arriving from the states with only personal effects, so the apartment is a clean slate - what a fun project! Below are two directions we are considering for the enormous combined Living Room & Dining Room space. Their new home is beautiful but very spacious so the key will be creating a warm and inviting interior {while still minding the budget!}. I am also keeping an eye out for pieces with patina and texture to add depth and prevent the room from feeling too new. We have already selected the mid century mod dining table, the white molded dining chairs, and classic slipcovered sofas . . . now just to decide on the rest!

I love the warmth that the burst of coral brings in the first scheme, but the soft aqua,  lime green and navy of the second is just so fresh.

Which scheme gets your vote?

Timeless Chic + A Special Birthday

Monday, May 6, 2013

 I just have to wish a happy 90th birthday to my amazing and thoroughly modern Grandma. You are such an inspiration and I adore hearing about your 1970s chic black and yellow living room {dying to find a good photo!} you have always been ahead of your time. So this post is just for you and proof that black and yellow is just as chic now as it was then! I love you!

{fantastic with a bolt of apple green too!}

Happy Birthday Gram!

Singapore Style: A Living Room 2 Ways

Friday, February 8, 2013

I am working on a fun design project here in Singapore and thought I would share a peak! I always select rugs at the beginning of the design process as they can really shape the style of the entire room - these living room mockups are a perfect example. They both share the same streamlined gray sofa and organic light fixture (which we already decided on) but the rug options take the room in very different directions! A tribal pattered rug in dove gray and indigo leads to a sophisticated and layered space, while the blue and ivory stripe heads towards a brighter and more casual design. My client is still thinking over the two rug options and she says she loves them both, so lets help her out - what is your vote?

Living Room 1 // Crate & Barrel Tulyn Rug

Living Room 2 // Dash & Albert Trimaran Stripe Rug
{as an added bonus this is an indoor-outdoor rug, you can even bleach it - amazing for a young family!}

1 - 2 - 3 Pretty + Bohemian Style

Thursday, November 8, 2012

Pretty, bohemian and still a bit sophisticated - this lovely living room is just perfection to me! I love how relaxed and informal this space feels without becoming shabby or disheveled looking. I especially like the rumbled linen slip cover on the sofa and the addition of a few industrial style pieces like the metal floor lamp.  The whole look just reminds me of France somehow. . . sigh!

Daily Detail: Cozy, Industrial Living

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Don't you just love this warm and casual living room? It would seem that industrial pieces and bare floors would be the opposite of cozy, but this space illustrates just how to fuse the two! I love the layers of different textures, the simple monochromatic color scheme, and the clean, mod lines of the furniture pieces. The collected gallery wall is also so pretty and quirky!

Inspired IKEA: Eclectic Living Room

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Spotted. . . lots of IKEA pieces mixed with mid century modern vintage furniture and lots of original artwork! The result is a welcoming and eclectic living space in blues and yellows. The pillows first caught my eye - all three patterns are from IKEA, as well as the global-chic TROLLSTA tray table in black. The sheepskin throw rugs are also IKEA. But the space really comes together in a custom way due the lovely wood settee, groovy white floor lamp and gallery wall featuring tons of collected paintings and illustrations.  I am certainly inspired - hope you are too!

Manly Sophistication

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Sometimes people think any designed interior is automatically girly - I beg to differ! Some of the best and most sophisticated designs are plenty masculine and a bit tough too. It's often a big challenge as a designer to create a room that both male and female clients love. The key is the layering of materials! All of these beautiful spaces rely on many varying tones of metals, woods, leathers, and fabrics - all in neutral tones - to bring the interior together. All of these rooms also share interesting collections of objects, art, and vintage pieces to add even more texture.

 See guys - you don't be afraid of interior design - gorgeous style can be truly unisex!
