House Tour: Swedish Seaside Style

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Sigh. . . white floors, mixed vintage and industrial chic pieces, ocean views . . . this seaside retreat in Sweden is just dreamy. I love how each space has a few unexpected, quirky and personal pieces. The furniture and accessories were collected by the owner and designer Mary Olssen Nylander, and come from China, Sweden, France, Morocco, India and Italy for a deeply eclectic style.

My favorite is that kitchen - the weathered blue island, vintage Moroccan rug, and teal velvet chairs are just amazing! Do any of these spaces inspire you?

House Tour: Casually Modern in Dallas

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

I love interiors which are casual and livable but also stylish - and this family home in Dallas is just that. Designed by Wendy Konradi for her own family, it feels like an urban version of a breezy beach home and I love mix of vintage and modern pieces. It is so infused with personality and texture but is not too cluttered - a hard balance to achieve!

What do you think? Casually and stylishly modern?

I especially love the simple but chic dining room and the giant chalkboard wall in the kitchen - so fun!

A Glowing Fire. . .

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

I don't believe anything can do as much for a room as a glowing fire in an attractive fireplace. Men and dogs love an open fire - they show good sense! It is the heart of any room and should be kindled on the slightest provocation.
- Dorothy Draper, 1939

I could not agree more! I love a glowing fire, especially in the holiday season. Whether mod and minimalist or classic and old world, a fireplace is always beautiful. I also adore how fireplaces feel at home in almost any space, from a bedroom to a kitchen, library, bathroom or outdoor terrace. Here are some lovely examples to warm you up. . .

This last one is the Victorian Drawing Room at the Greenbrier Hotel, designed by Dorothy Draper and featured on the cover of House Beautiful 1948, and it's complete with a lovely fireplace!
Which one is your favorite? Hope you are all keeping cozy!

Merry Christmas!

Sunday, December 25, 2011

I just love this photo of the Kennedys on Christmas morning. Even in her p.j.s, Jackie is so chic {even wearing pearls!} It's such a touching shot and even after all these years, there is still something so glamorous and stylish about them!

Wishing you a day filled with joy, family + friends and maybe even a bit of glamour too!

Country vs. City

Saturday, December 24, 2011

I love the energy and festive spirit of the city during the holiday season but if I had to chose, I think a rustic country setting is really just perfection! I had the amazing fortune to spend most of last holiday season in France and loved the classical and charming Parisian Christmas lights, but being an American girl at heart, these countryside scenes are still my favorite. . .

How about you? For your dream holiday season surroundings is it country charm or city chic?

Happy Holidays!
XOXO
