While they might have got their start as a scientific tools, I love all of the glass bell jars I am seeing in interiors these days. They are a great way to add a bit of industrial modern style to your space and are so versatile - you can fill them a small sculpture or momento, fruit, foliage, a potted plant or anything really! Bell jars, also known as cloches, are also perfect for switching up your decor for the season or as a table top centerpiece for parties.

Daily Detail: Cozy, Industrial Living

Don't you just love this warm and casual living room? It would seem that industrial pieces and bare floors would be the opposite of cozy, but this space illustrates just how to fuse the two! I love the layers of different textures, the simple monochromatic color scheme, and the clean, mod lines of the furniture pieces. The collected gallery wall is also so pretty and quirky!

Love or Loath: Orange for Fall

There has been a lot of chat lately in the blogosphere about loving or loathing orange as a pop of color for fall. While I do agree that it is a look you might tire of quickly, I can't help but love the energy and life the hue can bring! I think the key is two-fold: 

{1} Pick a rich, dusty tone of orange {a shade that is just off, not too bright or too clear}  
{2} Use it sparingly - just one or two unexpected bolts, a little goes a long way!

A Quick Design History: Starburst Mirror

Starburst mirrors fall into the oh-so-rare category of timelessly stylish design! I love the glam, reflectivity, and sense of architecture they bring a space and I like to use them in dining rooms, bedrooms, entries, and well, pretty much any space. Starburst mirrors have been popular since the 1790's after the French Revolution, as a use for all of the gilded religious auroras torn from churches and palaces {the nerdy side of me just loves when history and decor collide!} But actually bullseye, convex mirrors have been in fashion since the Venetian Republic. 

These days you can find starburst mirrors at all price points and in all kinds of styles so here is a round up of my favorites!

Daily Detail: A Manly Bedroom Haven

Today I am so inspired by this minimal yet vintage inspired bedroom. It's actually a hotel in NYC, but it is so refined and classic, I think it would make a fantastic bedroom at home too. The industrial style sconces provide soft reading light while leaving the small bedside tables free, which is a great trick for a small bedroom. I also love how the gallery wall is aligned from the top - it's so unexpected and gives a bit of architectural structure to the space. Lastly, I think the muted color palette of the room is so soothing and beautiful. It was so clever to add a bit of color of in the dusty peach and red wine matting of the art!

House Tour: Tropical Sophitication in Hawaii

Living in the tropical climate has made me realize what a challenge warm weather design can be. I am always searching for inspiring spaces that are airy and light but also rich and welcoming, and I think this family vacation home in  Kona, Hawaii is a beautiful example just that! I love the soft blues, greens and yellows color scheme and all of the layers of subtle pattern. I also love how these spaces pay homage to their surroundings with lots of natural Hawaiian materials and details {like this amazing thatched inset ceiling below!}

So sophisticated, lovely and peaceful! Any tropical details you love?

Instant Glamour: The Urban Canopy Bed

I love the urban glamour and cozy-chic vibe of this fantastic bedroom by Michelle Adams of Lonny {which I am also in love with!}. I always am drawn to the architecture and structure of a traditional canopy bed, but for many of us without mile high ceilings, they are just not an option. One brilliant solution is to use simple curtain rods mounted directly to the ceiling. It is such a sleek, affordable and flexible alternative. Once the rods are mounted you can have six curtain panels made of your favorite fabric {as Adams did} or just alter ready made panels. She used a simple cream linen lining, but the inside is a great place to add an unexpected fabric too. I also love this bedroom for its layering of different textures and patterns - the key is keeping them all in the same color family, here black, white and neutrals.

Warm Welcome: A Sunny Front Door

For a recent e-decorating project, we decided to paint the front door a bright and warm yellow. I more often see the exterior of a door painted a bold hue, but why not the interior - that you get to enjoy it all the time! Plus, in this case it was a condo, so painting the outside was not an option. It is a simple and lovely way to add color and energy to your space!

I selected Benjamin Moore's Raincoat Yellow #2020-40 in a high gloss finish for the front door. Its one of my favorites - it is such a beautiful deep shade, bright but not too harsh, and with just the right amount of gold.

The painters just finished and here is a sneak peak. . .  just a quick iphone shot my client sent me, but I am loving the impact this burst of color with the new rug and light fixture! What do you think? I can't wait to see more images of the finished space S.K.!

Daily Detail: Peachy Breakfast Nook

Today I am so inspired by this warm and airy breakfast nook. It is open, uncluttered and simple but still so inviting. I am definitely going to keep this one on file, it just so peaceful and pretty! 

Here's why I think it works:

{1} The rich espresso floor helps to ground the pure white walls and bare windows

{2} Natural accents and textures like the basket, table top, and chair legs give an organic warmth

{3} Pops of soft peach from the pillows and artwork give the space just a hint of color

Current Obsession: Oversized Green Glass

Lately I am crazy over the large, blown green glass I am spotting. I love the luminous, organic and imperfect quality of the glass and of course the color. I especially like how these oversized pieces look in a white, minimal interior - it just lets them shine a little bit more. . . .

So pretty and unexpected on top of the fridge! The warmth of the vases and the wicker baskets beautifully balance all of the stainless steel.
